Inside Our Four-Phase QA Process
Kinnovis implements what Kevin describes as a “shift-left testing” approach, where quality is considered from the very beginning of the development cycle. This proactive methodology consists of four comprehensive phases:
1. Test Planning Phase
Our process begins with close collaboration amongst product managers and developers in refinement sessions. We clarify requirements, edge cases and acceptance criteria before coding begins, whilst identifying potential risks and inconsistencies between designs and requirements.
2. Test Design Phase
The team then breaks down features into test scenarios, establishes the testing scope and expected outcomes, outlines dependencies with existing features and creates detailed test cases with step-by-step procedures to ensure thorough coverage.
3. Test Execution Phase
During execution, we implement both scripted testing following documented test cases and exploratory testing to discover edge cases. The team reports test results to developers and verifies that any fixes properly address the identified issues.
4. Test Closure Phase
Finally, we summarise the testing process, analyse test results, document non-critical issues for future sprints and run automated tests before release to ensure everything functions properly.
This methodical approach ensures that our self-storage software undergoes rigorous testing at every stage, minimising the risk of issues when the product reaches our customers.

“Automation helps ensure that core workflows like creating bookings or generating invoices are consistently validated,” Kevin explains. “This reduces repetitive manual work, provides faster feedback and increases our confidence in the release process.”

This partnership includes maintaining close communication throughout the development process, early participation in refinement sessions, sharing test documentation with developers to support their unit and integration testing and providing insights on edge cases developers might not have anticipated.
