HeyLager was founded by industry experts in August 2023 to build the next generation of drive-up self-storage parks, combining modular construction with fully digital processes.

Located in Alzenau near Frankfurt, the facility offers 3,000 sqm of lettable space and features a unique mix of drive-up and indoor units—a rare combination in the German market. The next location, in Roth near Nuremberg, is set to open on May 1st. Several more sites are already in development, as HeyLager plans to expand its portfolio in the coming years.

How Kinnovis has helped your business?

With over 30 years of experience in digital technology, my background is rooted in online marketing and eCommerce – leading to high expectations for user experience and automated processes.

At HeyLager, we’re committed to providing our customers with a frictionless online rental experience. From booking to handover, tenants can manage everything from their smartphones. However, experience has taught me that digital processes aren’t automatically more efficient for customers or staff just because they’re digital. That’s where Kinnovis shines. Beyond the booking interface, the platform automates storage contracts, terminations, access control and the critical behind-the-scenes workflows.

Within just two and a half months, we rented out 60% of our space – all 100% online. The only calls we get are general inquiries – or sometimes, people just want to chat. And that’s perfectly fine!

Is there one feature that has had the most impact for you?

Kinnovis is fully integrated into our HeyLager-Platform and since data is king, it was important for us to manage things like digital locks automatically. While the built-in reporting features in Kinnovis Manager are helpful, we also needed to track advanced KPIs and centralise data across our tech stack.

That’s why we were thrilled about the release of the Public API. It allowed us to build custom reports using tools like Looker Studio. We weren’t expecting a fully-fledged analytics suite out of the box – and honestly, that wouldn’t work for everyone anyway. But a well-documented API gives us the flexibility to build exactly what we need in terms of reporting and data management.

Was there enough support available for you and your team?

Absolutely. The team did an excellent job during our onboarding and everything has been running smoothly.

Given its feature set, Kinnovis could easily feel overwhelming, but the setup is intuitive and well thought out. Having worked with other self-storage software in the past, I know how feature-rich they can be – but too often they sacrifice usability. That’s not the case here.

Who do you think would benefit the most from using Kinnovis?

As one of the early adopters of Kinnovis for drive-up storage, we see the platform’s potential for operators like us. The API and integrations with external tools make a real difference. The ability to work with our own data – on our own terms – is a major benefit, and that’s something every modern operator should care about.

We’re also pleased to see that excellent European solutions like Kinnovis are available – something that’s especially important during times of major geopolitical upheaval!
